Psalm 119:49-72 When I took a long, careful look at your ways, I got my feet back on the trail you blazed. (v.59 The Message)
As a young child, at camp in Maine, I constantly carried a small box of Fruit Loops wherever I went. People could identify me because of the trail of Fruit Loops that I left behind. Detectives use a person’s unique fingerprints to identify and track their journey. I believe that God calls us to leave identifying “heartprints” as a trail of His love at work within us.
Jesus tells us, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind… Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37, 39). A Christian’s trademark trail should be a wake of heartprints everywhere we go. People should know us by the trail of love that we leave behind.
Some days what lies behind me is not a trail of love. It is on those days that I ask Jesus to help me get my feet back on His trail. My prayer is that every day people will see the heartprints of God’s love reflected in my life.
