Upside Down Life

Aug 13, 2023 | Blog, Scripture Sunday

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Jeremiah 29:11

In August of 2019, I suddenly no longer had a job.  I had been in full time ministry for 15+ years.  And I truly believed that this job was my forever job.  So, when the job ended I felt like my whole world had suddenly been flipped upside down.

That is when I discovered that my entire identity had been wrapped up in that job.  Who was I if I wasn’t in full time ministry?  What was my purpose in life, now?

Those questions (along with lots of others) began running on a ticker tape in my brain…non-stop.  I felt like I was free falling faster and faster towards the ground.  That is when this image came to my mind.

As I created the artwork, I began to think about the fact that my job ending was not a surprise to God.  He wasn’t sitting up there with His jaw hanging open saying, “What just happened?”  No, He was reaching out His hand to me leading me to the Scripture in Jeremiah 29 to remind me that He knows the plans He has for my life.  And He promises that the plans He has will not harm me, but they will give me hope for my future.

If you feel like you are on a free fall in an upside down life, I invite you to re-read the Scripture above.  Draw comfort from the fact that Jesus has wonderful plans for your future (even if you can’t see them right now).  Put your hope in Him and His plans.

Until next time blessings and healing
