Psalm 121 He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you… (vv.3-5a)
As a child, did you ever ask a parent to sit by your bed and watch over you so you could go to sleep? You closed your eyes, comforted by the presence of your parent beside you as you drifted into a deep sleep. You experienced a sense of safety simply knowing that your parent was watching over you.
When I had to have surgery, I wanted to experience that kind of security. My parents could not go into the operating room with me, but my Heavenly Father was there with me. Jesus blessed me with this Scripture before I went under anesthesia: “I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone O Lord, will keep me safe” (Psalm 4:8). I experienced peace and security beyond my understanding.
God offers a sense of safety and comfort that surpasses that of any earthly parent. Our parents can not watch us every moment of the day. However, God’s Word promises us that His eye is always upon us! The Lord is constantly watching over us protecting us from harm.
