Today is July 4th, a day that commemorates the passage of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. Technically, Congress had voted in favor of becoming independent from Great Britain two days earlier on July 2nd, but revisions made to the Declaration were not finished until the fourth. During the Summer of 1776, many towns marked these early days of independence with mock funerals of the king as a metaphor for the death of the monarchy and tyranny and to celebrate the rebirth of freedom.
This day in the United States history reminds me of another death that brings freedom. A true freedom of body, mind, and spirit. While, I recognize the value of this day in our Country’s history, today I am choosing to also celebrate Jesus’ death which has brought me the ultimate freedom, an eternal life spent with Him.
Today, I am remembering Him setting me free of addictions, depression, anxiety, and much more. I am thankful the Lord loved us so much that He sent His only Son to die for us. Like our ancestors here in the United States, I am celebrating the death of the tyranny of my former struggles and issues. I am thankful for my rebirth into the freedom found in a loving relationship with Jesus.
This gives me a brand new appreciation for the celebration of July 4th. Yes, I will remember the passage of the Declaration of Independence, but I will also be thanking and praising the Lord for my true freedom that only He can give me.
So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free. John 8:36 NLT
Until next time blessings and healing
