1 Kings 19:8-21 The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. (vv.11-12 NIV)

Are you still enough to hear the gentle whisper of the Lord? Or are you like me, so busy that I am sure that I miss the Lord’s whisper? I even find that I can get busy doing Bible Studies and volunteering each week. I am constantly gaining head knowledge about the Lord, but I often neglect my intimate heart relationship with the Lord. I’m so consumed with the noise (busyness of life) that I can’t hear the Lord’s gentle whisper.

I’m reminded of the two sisters, Martha and Mary. Martha was so busy preparing everything for the Lord’s visit that she was distracted and missed out spending intimate time with Jesus. Whereas, Mary sat at Jesus’ feet listening to what He said. Jesus said to Martha, “Mary has chosen what is better…” (Luke 10:42). Mary was still before the Lord and she listened. I bet she heard His whisper.

Lord, help me be still and listen, like Mary, so I can hear Your gentle whisper. Amen.

Until next time blessings and healing
