I always enjoy creating Scripture based artwork. The one problem that always arises for me is that I don’t have a clue what Jesus really looked like. Because of that I often blur His face with flares of light to obscure His features. I’ve never really liked how that looked, to be honest. And I’ve always just put the artwork on a black background instead of creating a scene. As I’ve contemplated and prayed about that. I believe I’ve been led to go in a totally different direction when it comes to Scripture Art. The idea is to set the scene in the present day using children and a “modern” Jesus. The children because Jesus tells us in the New Testament to come to Him like a child – humble, vulnerable, dependent, seeking, and joyfully.
This is the first attempt at this new direction based on the Scripture from Luke 19:1-5 about Zacchaeus. It talks about him being short in stature. In order to get a peek, over the crowd, at Jesus Zacchaeus climbed up a tree. Jesus saw him up there, invited Zacchaeus to come down out of the tree, so they could spend the day together at Zacchaeus’ home. For the modern version, the little boy is unable to see Jesus because of the crowds surrounding Him. So he climbs up a tree where Jesus sees him. Jesus calls out to him inviting the little boy to come down out of the tree to spend the day together.
When we seek Jesus, He will meet us exactly where we are whether it is in a tree, in the car, or at home. He loves spending time with us. He will always find us when we seek Him. Our job is to seek Him. Jesus does the rest.
Until next time blessings and healing
