Psalm 57 Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for in you my soul takes refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed. (v.1)

This Scripture reminds of times when I was young and I got scared and hid. As a child I was terrified of anybody wearing a costume. My mom recounts times when we went to Disney World and the characters would approach us. I would cry diving under her skirt to hide from the characters. I stayed under her skirt until the characters moved on. I found refuge in the shadow of her skirt.

This simplistic analogy paints a picture for me of finding refuge under the shadow of the Lord’s wings when I feel threatened. When I am frightened or overwhelmed by things in my life, I know that God will have mercy on me as I dive towards Him. God’s Word says: “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High, will find refuge in the shadow of the Almighty” (Psalm 91:1).

Lord, help me to dwell in Your Presence where I will be sheltered in Your Shadow and protected from the disasters of life. In You I take refuge. Amen

Until next time blessings and healing
