I know a young woman who was an alcoholic. God delivered her from alcoholism and she has been sober for many years. She is very verbal about her testimony of being set free. Some people have told her that she needs to stop looking at her past. She is no longer an alcoholic; so stop talking about it. Their perception is that the past – is past – so why dwell on it? Some even point to the Bible to try and prove that nothing good comes out of looking back at our past.
“…Flee for you lives! Don’t look back…But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.” Genesis 19:17 & 26
On the surface, it appears that all looking back did was kill Lot’s wife. If one digs deeper into the Word the true meaning of what happened will be revealed. The words looked back come from the Hebrew word nabat which means to look intently – by implication the word means to “regard with pleasure.” One might say that Lot’s wife was regarding with pleasure what lay behind. What lay behind her were the sin-filled cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.
If the young woman was looking back to her drinking days and regarding them with pleasure then she should stop talking about it and ask Jesus to heal her from those desires. However, if she is offering praise to the Lord for her healing then I say, “You go, Sister!” God has given us the gift of testimonies. It is His desire for us to share History in our lives.
I remember when I first came to the Healing Ministry; I was struggling with remaining hopeful through the physical healing that God was doing in me. Some days I felt like giving up, the pain was so bad. Then a man who was involved with the Healing Ministry told me part of his testimony and said these words, “If you every feel like giving up or lose hope – come talk to me and I’ll remind you about the hope that we find in Jesus Christ.” His story of what Jesus had done in his past, and was doing now in his present, gave me hope That man’s testimony of God’s healing in his life changed my life!
When God heals you, it is near to impossible to keep the good news to yourself! You want to shout it from the rooftops and whisper it in everybody’s ears. You never know when your testimony of God’s healing power is going to be the encouragement that a person needs to get through another pain-filled day.
I want to thank every person who has ever stood up during the Healing Service and given their testimony. You have been a blessing to me. You encourage me. You give me hope. Most of all you remind me that our God is an Awesome God Who loves to heal His children! Thank you for looking back at your past and recognizing God’s healing handprints in your life.
Revelation 12:11 They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony…
Until next time blessings and healing
