Psalm 40 He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. (v.2)
When I was young, I used to love rainy days. I would eagerly pull on my bright yellow raincoat and wiggle my feet into the matching rain boots. Out the door I’d run to splash through the puddles and giggle as rain dripped off the hood of the raincoat. The harder it was raining, the more fun I had! My poor parents had to accompany me on these wet adventures because I often ended up stuck in some mud puddle. They would reach down, grab onto my hands, and pluck me up out of my boots. They’d swing me over to a relatively dry rock and set me down as they went off to rescue my boots from the mud.
This is the picture I see when I think of how God rescues me from the stormy circumstances of my life. He gently reaches down and plucks me up out of the mud and sets me on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ. He is my loving Father who is always there to rescue me and place me somewhere safe.
