You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord…
Isaiah 62:3 ESV
When I first read that Scripture, I was kind of speechless. I mean who am I, or who are we, that the Lord looks at us and sees us as a crown of beauty. I am a pretty flawed human being, so the idea that the Lord looks at me, with all my good, bad, and ugly, and sees beauty is humbling.
The most amazing thing happens to us when we give our lives to the Lord. All our old baggage, our old bad habits, and all our shortcomings are gone. Jesus gives us a fresh start. We begin again with a clean slate as a brand new creation in Christ. (see 2 Corinthians 5:17) Now when the Lord looks at us, He sees us through the filter of Jesus as His beloved children.
Right before the Lord talks about the crown of beauty, He says that we will be called by a new name that He will give us. And He goes on to say that no more will we be called rejected/forsaken (depending on the translation) because He delights in us. (paraphrased Isaiah 62:2-4) In Isaiah, God was talking to those in Jerusalem, but when we invite Jesus into our hearts I believe those words and promises can be inherited by us as well. Because we are adopted into God’s family, we are His children and His heirs.
Take a moment to read Isaiah 62:3 above again. How does that make you feel to know that when God looks at you, He sees you as a crown of beauty in His hand? You, my friend, are precious in the Lord’s sight. He created you because more than anything He wanted to be in relationship with you. That is pretty darn cool, isn’t it?!?
Today’s artwork is the image I felt in my heart when I read Isaiah 62:3. I saw a princess wearing a crown, given to her by the Lord. And I saw Jesus looking down on her with a smile as she looked up at Him smiling. She knows she is loved. She is a crown of beauty in the Lord’s hand.
And you, my friend, are a crown of beauty in the Lord’s hand too. Don’t ever forget that.
Until next time blessings and healing
